President Obama Premature with Nuclear Immunity Idol

On Tuesday, President Obama revealed a new policy restricting U.S. use of nuclear arms against countries that are following the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. What is not known is whether or not the rest
of the World is on board fully. Is this bold move by President Obama a smart one? Conservatives do not think so in light of the ongoing problems with North Korea and Iran. These countries are not protected by this new policy because of their refusal to follow the treaty. Still, the threat for nuclear weapons remains both in these countries as well as others.


It is no secret that President Obama is very much for eliminating nuclear weapons throughout the world. He received a Nobel prize for that very mindset. The vision is a noble one to be sure. The problem is, it is a threat to our national security to reduce arms in our country when we know that our enemies are building them. It is much like the game of Survivor. We are putting ourselves at risk if we make the move first in light of the clear intentions of our enemy. If they will not drop their nuclear program when we are a nuclear power, what makes Obama think they will consider it when we are not?
I am all for reducing our nuclear capabilities as a society, but we can not afford to do so until North Korea, Iran and other rogue nations come into compliance. We are simply setting ourselves up for a huge problems down the road. The slope is a slippery one and it seems very premature. Nuclear reduction only works when you have world compliance. If even one nation retains nuclear capabilities, then the world as a whole is at serious risk. No amount of nobility or good intentions will save us if one of these countries decides to strike.
Surely, we would be able to counter the strike to some degree. It is not about who would win. The use of nuclear weapons once would mean that we all lose, because it would set off a chain reaction throughout the world. North Korea and Iran are sitting on their capabilities because they know we have the power to eliminate them entirely. If we take away that power, we put ourselves at risk even more for nuclear war.
By all means, President Obama, reduce the arms and nuclear capabilities of the world. Do so through diplomacy and leadership with foreign nations and by all means allow the country to lead by example.
But do not throw away our immunity idol when other countries continue to have theirs. You will get voted off the
island.
