Why do we indulge in emotional eating

Anyone who has sought solace in a pizza or a pint of ice cream knows that food can be comforting. But experts still do not know exactly why we gravitate toward sweet or fatty foods when we feel down, or how food affects our emotions.

The taste and the pleasant memories associated with junk food certainly play a role, but can be a part of history. A study of new small, hormones in our stomachs seem to communicate directly with our brains, independent of all the feelings we have about a particular food.

Most research on diet and emotion looked at the overall experience of consumption - the tastes, smells and textures, and more nutrients. In this study, however, researchers have taken the subjective experience of the table by the "feed" the volunteers through a stomach tube trivialized.
